Special Needs Ministry - Children / Teens

Sydney DAs each child or teen is uniquely made in the image of God, our approach to providing assistance is individualized. An occupational therapist will meet with you to gather information and then develop a plan of support that best meets the child’s/teen’s needs. We place the child/teen with similar-aged peers for Sunday School, Children’s Church, music groups, Summer Bible Camp, etc. An adult, older child or peer helper can be trained and placed with the child/teen for support if needed. In situations where a special environment and curriculum are required to meet sensory and/or learning needs, a reverse-inclusion classroom is available, called “Oaks Too”. In “Oaks Too”, students are assisted by trained adult volunteers and teachers while same-aged peers without disabilities join them as classmates and friends. While teaching basic Biblical truths, we integrate skill-building in areas such as prayer and worship, socialization, self-care, motor skills and also find ways for our students to use their gifts to minister to others. Our older students join the Jr./Sr. High Youth groups once a month for activities that they can enjoy together.
