John and Cathy Rug are MTW church planters serving in Vina del Mar in central Chile. Here they work with the Renaca Presbyterian Church team doing preaching, evangelism, discipling, and counseling plus the development of quilting and music classes.

John has been busy developing a new ministry called CEMIPRE. This ministry center is designed to address the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those with disabilities from the surrounding community. These ‘differently enabled,’ as John calls them, and their families neither feel welcomed nor included in some of the existing congregations, and have found others inaccessible.

On June 17, 2007 Iglesia Gracia y Paz (Grace and Peace) celebrated its first worship service in the

CEMIPRE building. Braille song books and bulletins, including the scriptures used in the services, are provided. John, who himself is blind, views the 13% of Chile’s population that is differently enabled as “unevangelized outcasts” of Chilean society. Through this new ministry they have been able to share Jesus Christ with those who would not otherwise hear.
