Larry and Sandy Rockwell are MTW missionaries serving in the Hinterland region in and around the city of Huaraz, Peru. They are serving in the fourth year of their first term. Larry and Sandy hosted the TOPC Medical Missions Team in May of 2006.
The Rockwells minister to thousands of Quechua Indians living up and down the sides of the rugged Andes Mountains. Because each tribe of Quechua Indians generally have their own dialect, and these dialects are hard to master, it is difficult for missionaries in this region to easily build meaningful relationships. However, the Rockwells have made significant inroads into the communities surrounding Huaraz with Bible Studies and other Christian ministries.
The Rockwells have recently taken on the responsibility of managing the new MTW Bible and Training Center located in Huaraz. TOPC helped to purchase this facility through a conference project in 2006. At the Center pastors and leaders will be trained who will then go back to their respective villages to teach, pastor and lead Bible Studies. Quechuas reaching out to Quechuas is obviously the most effective way to reach these people with the gospel.
