JG and Jenny Porwoll have been working with Student Venture, a branch of Campus Crusade for Christ’s high school ministry, since 1996 in Moscow, Russia. During a typical week or month the Porwolls’ activities would include participation in weekly small group Bible Studies, weekly youth group meetings and various monthly large group outreaches. They are also heavily involved in conducting large evangelistic youth camps and conferences each semester, as well as leading summer camps and leadership development projects. A big part of their current work is training youth workers from Moscow, Belarus, Bulgaria and other parts of the old “Russian Federation.”

The Porwolls ministry has become a national work rather than just a Moscow regional ministry. However, President Putin is tightening his grip on the country in all aspects of Russian life and the schools are being questioned frequently about their involvement with groups like Student Venture. To further hinder their work, the typical secular-minded Russian has no concept of Christianity, making it much more difficult to lead someone to Christ, especially in light of the fact that all Protestant and Catholic groups are considered as cults.

JG is a Ruling Elder and served as the first Director of World Missions for Twin Oaks Church and recruited the current Director, Leo Mooney, to serve on his Committee in 1992.
