Don and Sue Gahagen retired from MTW in 2007, but not really. The Gahagens remain actively involved with the Hinterlands (Ecuador, Peru & Bolivia) as Field Consultants, encouraging, counseling and filling in for missionaries who must leave the field for short periods of time. They also work in the U.S. presenting the Hinterland ministry in churches, recruiting potential workers and handling administrative issues, including various assignments from the Regional Director, Keith Powlison.
Don and Sue work with MTW missionaries to reach out to the millions of Quechua Indians of the Andean mountain region. The Hinterland ministry involves church planting through the training of Quechua church planters, evangelists and other church leaders. The 12 million Quechua of the Andean region are basically an unevangelized peoples group. There are 40 or more dialects among this 12 million people. Recognizing the barriers that this presents in sharing the Gospel, MTW believes that Quechuas reaching Quechuas is the most efficient way to effectuate church planting.
