Life Hurts, God Heals
What is “Life Hurts, God Heals”?
“Life Hurts, God Heals” or “LHGH” is the Youth Version of Celebrate Recovery. It is a ministry designed specifically for students who have experienced pain or addiction, including drinking, anger, cutting, pornography, eating disorders, drugs, troubled family dynamics, etc. LHGH is an 8 Step program targeted specifically for students in middle school through college age, and is based on the Beatitudes from the Bible. It is based on the same 12 Step program used by the adults in Celebrate Recovery. The LHGH curriculum provides lifelong tools for students dealing with unresolved hurt and pain.
UNFORTUNATELY, WE DO NOT YET HAVE THE LHGH PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR OUR YOUTH AT TWIN OAKS!
Adults – Are you interested in finding out more about Life Hurts, God Heals? Would you like to be part of the team that starts LHGH at Twin Oaks? If so, please contact the Youth Ministry Leaders or the Leaders of Celebrate Recovery at Twin Oaks and speak with them about it.
Students – Could “Life Hurts, God Heals” be right for you? Read on.
Are you upset much of the time? Have you been hurt? Maybe your parents divorced. Maybe you lost a friend or loved one. Maybe you faced rejection from some friends. Maybe you lose control of your emotions sometimes – Anger, Sadness or Guilt. Have you ever felt like you weren't good enough? Do you feel like you're not pretty, not talented, not good looking, not smart? Do you feel like no one likes you? Do you sometimes not even like yourself? Have you ever used or thought about using drugs or alcohol? Or pornography? Maybe you've struggled a lot, perhaps just a little.
If so, then Life Hurts, God Heals was created just for you. Someday soon, we hope to begin a group just for you. Imagine being in a small group with other kids your age who are dealing with hurts and pains just like you. LHGH is an 8 Step program aimed at helping you get a handle on your hurt as well as the immense love that God has for you.
Your youth ministry leaders understand that sometimes what you are going through is more than what your youth discipleship group is set up to handle. That is why we want to do this for you.
Life Hurt God Heals (LHGH) was created by Celebrate Recovery specifically for teenagers who have experienced pain and/or addiction. All over the country thousands of students have gone through this 8 Step study leaving many encouraged and changed. Listen to what a few at Saddleback Church in California have shared:
• “I went to LHGH thinking maybe just maybe someone could help me cause the shrinks and anti-depressants weren't cutting it. And, wow, this whole experience so far has been amazing. My outlook on life has changed so much. I know I'm just beginning my road to healing.” - Allie, 16
• “I don’t know about you, but my life hurts. I needed help and Life Hurts God Heals gave me that help through other people’s support and openness. I am on my way!”
- Paul, 17
• “I showed up at Life Hurts God Heals, and God just kind of opened the doors. When other guys in my group opened up, I realized it was a safe place to be open too.”
- Jon, 15
• “I was having a really hard time with my family and friends and drugs and who knows what else . . . and the people in the Life Hurts God Heals group helped me.”
- Allison, 16
• “I joined Life Hurts God Heals because I got kicked out and had to live with my dad. I just wanted to start over . . . now I have new friends from LHGH who understand and steps to help me when I want to blow it.” - Theresa, 14
• “The main reason I joined LHGH is because I never have accepted myself. I’ve always thought I wasn’t good enough. I would wonder why God put me here. To get away from the pain, I would eat. Now, I am in Life Hurts God Heals and receiving steps that I can actually apply to my life to help turn my bad choices into good ones.” - Steph, 18
