Funeral Worship Services / Bereavement

Funeral Worship Services / Bereavement

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." – Matthew 5:4

The Funeral Worship Service is a time to glorify God, to celebrate the life of the deceased who is created in God’s image, and an opportunity for the church to serve the families in a time of loss.  It is the staff’s privilege to serve the families.

The Senior Pastor* at Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church will be the overseer of all arrangements and decisions, including music, eulogy and all aspects of the service.  The Senior Pastor’s* and Worship & Music Minister’s offices will coordinate all staff as needed.  Music must be sacred in genre and acceptable for a morning worship service.

The following is an example of the Order of the Funeral Worship Service:
Prelude
Call to Worship
Hymn of Adoration
Scripture Reading
Special Music
Hymn of Comfort or Gospel Hymn
Scripture Reading
Message
Hymn of Thanksgiving
Words to the family
Benediction
Recessional Hymn

Pastors or church leaders with clear orthodox evangelical doctrinal positions may participate in funeral services with the approval of the Senior Pastor*.

The church has a group of volunteers who enjoy serving the family a meal after the funeral when possible. Their availability can be discussed with the Senior Pastor*. The church is unable to provide food or drinks during visitation or any meal to the congregation as a whole. If these things are desired by the family, then the family is encouraged to discuss the use of a community center, a private home, or a rental facility. TOPC staff will be glad to announce such plans after the funeral service, if desired.
